In we walk to the temples and shrines that belong to the UNESCO World Heritage Site. We begin at the Rinno-ji temple, dating back to the 7th century. In the main hall of this Buddhist temple are three large gilded statues: Amida, Senju-Kannon (the thousand-armed Kannon), and Bato-Kannon (Kannon with a horse’s head). These deities are seen as Buddhist manifestations of Nikko’s three mountain gods.
We drive to Llanberis in the Snowdonia National Park, where we take the Snowdon Mountain Railway to the top of Mount Snowdon. At 1,085 metres, it is the highest peak in Wales and is the focal point of the national park.A beautiful ride up with views of beautiful mountains. The summit can also be reached on foot and many do. From the train, we see entire hordes making the trek up, which takes about 3-4 hours.
